Herne Bay High School / 16 May 2024
Yesterday we staged a mock interview day for Year 10, in conjunction with EBP Kent.
We welcomed 20 guests from local businesses and were able to provide each student with a personal mock interview. The aim was to help them learn how to answer questions, improve their communication skills, reduce stress before actual job interviews and boost their confidence.
Ahead of the mock interviews, students had a presentation on interview techniques including the importance of clear verbal communication, active listening, and positive body language. Additionally, students learnt how to write a personalised CV.
After their mock interview, each student was given verbal feedback so that they can reflect on their successes and areas for development.
The students did us proud throughout the day with a number being identified as being particularly strong and earning the accolade of being immediately employable. Some students were also offered opportunities for work experience and employment.
Mrs Wrigley and Mrs Santer were very impressed to see students put so much energy and thought into how they presented themselves and how they came across in the interview. Some students were very nervous but it was clear they were determined to make the most of this opportunity.
All the industry volunteers stated they had enjoyed the day working with our students.
We look forward to repeating this event next year.
