Today, our Sixth Form students organised a fantastic fundraising event in support of Dottie’s Little Hog Hospital Charity Number: 1210935, a local charity in Herne Bay that rescues and cares for injured and vulnerable hedgehogs. The hospital relies on donations to provide food, shelter and vital care for these amazing animals.
Students got involved in a range of activities, including a bake sale, a 'Name the Hedgehog' competition (with the winning name being Kevin!) and the highlight of the event – a Hedgehog vs Dinosaur Race! 🦔🦖
A huge thank you to everyone who donated, took part and supported the event. We raised an amazing £90.00 for Dottie's Little Hog Hospital.
Well done to our Sixth Form students for organising such a fun and successful event in support of a worthwhile local cause!

This prestigious award recognises the school's outstanding commitment to providing high-quality, inclusive sporting and physical activity opportunities for all young people. A huge well done to the PE department, staff and students whose dedication and enthusiasm have made this fantastic achievement possible.
About The School Games Mark:
The School Games Mark is a government-led award scheme. It celebrates schools' commitment to developing competitive sport within their school and community.
Applications are assessed against the set criteria once submitted. This determines whether the school qualifies for Bronze, Silver, or Gold. Local SGOs verify applications, and some applications will undergo external validation to ensure accuracy. A Platinum award is available for schools that achieve Gold consistently. The Platinum award is valid for two years.
The School Games Mark follows the School Games’ objectives. Schools must show how they:
- Maintain and increase engagement in the School Games, and ensure every child gets 60 active minutes per day. For SEND students, this would be 20 minutes per day
- Organise competitions that provide positive experiences tailored to students’ motivation, confidence, and abilities
- Focus on key transition points, such as Year 3 and Year 6/7, and how secondary schools take part in the School Games
- Support the personal development of targeted students through youth engagement and leadership
- Engage key stakeholders to promote the value of the School Games and enhance local provision
- Provide equal opportunities for all young people, regardless of gender
- Understand and develop their approach to physical literacy..

Our year 12 Biology students returned yesterday to the University of Kent for their final day of the GENE project.
They carried out an ELISA assay to show how the antibodies they had modified could be used in a diagnostic test such as the lateral flow COVID-19 tests. The students have developed a range of skills throughout the project and gained amazing lab experience.
We are very grateful to the University of Kent for their support and look forward to taking part again next year.

On Friday, we were delighted to host our Year 13 Prom, celebrating the end of their exams as they prepare to move on to their post-18 options.
We welcomed all students to the Horsebridge in Whitstable, who looked amazing as they entered across the red carpet, to enjoy an evening of celebration and dancing as their time at Herne Bay High School came to an end.
Mrs Wrigley thanked all staff, mentors, year manager and students for their hard work and commitment over the past two years and wished every student success in their future endeavours.

A huge well done to all our post-16 applicants who joined us for Sixth Form Induction!
Over the past few days, students have had the opportunity to experience life as a Sixth Former – meeting new people, exploring our community, and sampling their chosen subjects. It’s been fantastic to see so much enthusiasm, curiosity, and ambition.
We hope you’ve had a great insight into the independence, opportunities, and support that define our Sixth Form. We can’t wait to welcome you back in September to begin your journey with us.

Thank you to all parents and carers who joined us yesterday evening for our Work Experience & Post-16 Pathways Information Event, led by Chris Target from CXK.
The session was both informative and engaging, with plenty of audience participation throughout – Chris kept everyone involved (and laughing!) while sharing valuable guidance on preparing students for work experience and exploring post-16 options, including sixth form, college and apprenticeships.
We appreciate that some families were unable to attend, so key information from the evening will be shared with all parents and carers shortly.
Finally, we would like to wish all of our Year 10 students the very best of luck for their work experience next week – take every opportunity, be eager to learn, and enjoy the experience!

Last Friday, we were delighted to host our Year 11 Prom, celebrating the end of their exams and for some of them, their time with us as they prepare to move on to their post-16 options.
As always, we were blown away by some of the outfits and modes of transport to arrive at school, and everyone was very thankful that the prom venue was air conditioned on one of the hottest nights of the year so far.

We would like to make families aware of important changes to Free School Meal (FSM) eligibility that will come into effect from September 2026.
The Government has announced that all children from households receiving Universal Credit will become entitled to a free school meal. This means that some families who have not previously qualified may now be eligible. There are now two categories of benefits-related Free School Meals:
- Targeted Free School Meals
Families receiving Universal Credit with household earnings of £7,400 or less per year.
Students in this category are entitled to Free School Meals and access to the Holiday Activity & Food Programme (HAF).
- Expanded Free School Meals
Families receiving Universal Credit with household earnings above £7,400 per year.
Students in this category are entitled to Free School Meals.
Transitional protections for FSM will end and households must meet the FSM eligibility criteria, it is therefore important that all eligible families apply, even if your child currently receives a free meal as this will not automatically continue from September.
We would also like to remind families that the Government's Household Support Fund has now been replaced by the Crisis Resilience Fund, which may provide additional assistance to families experiencing financial hardship.

We are incredibly proud of our Year 10 Hospitality and Catering students, who completed their mock practical cooking examination yesterday with outstanding effort, creativity, and professionalism. This assessment provided them with the opportunity to showcase the skills they have developed throughout the course, from planning and time management to presentation and technical cooking ability.
The range of dishes produced was truly impressive, reflecting both their understanding of nutrition and their growing confidence in the kitchen. Students demonstrated excellent attention to detail, working safely and efficiently under exam conditions while producing meals that were both visually appealing and full of flavour. From perfectly cooked main courses to beautifully presented accompaniments, the standard of work was exceptionally high.
What stood out most was the determination and resilience shown by our students. Many rose to the challenge of working independently, adapting to unexpected situations, and ensuring their final dishes met the brief. Their commitment and enthusiasm were evident throughout the examination.
We are delighted with what they have achieved and look forward to seeing how they continue to build on these skills in the future. Well done, Year 10, you should all be extremely proud of yourselves.

We'd like to recognise Year 9 student Abhinav, who alongside his studies has been pursuing his passion for aviation and has successfully complete a solo glider flight at the age of 14 - a significant milestone in his aviation journey and is a real testament to his dedication, commitment, maturity and determination.
His achievement has also been featured by the Aero Club of India, where his accomplishment was highlighted as an inspiring example of youth involvement in aviation.
Congratulations on your achievements, Abhinav. We wish you every success with your future aviation activities and in your studies at our school.
