Term 4 News from the Humanities Faculty
4 Apr

This term 48 of our Year 9 History and RE students visited the Imperial War Museum in London. They toured the WW1 exhibit and enjoyed seeing artefacts from the conflict itself. Students took part in the award-winning interactive Holocaust workshop. Using iPads, they made their way through the Holocaust exhibit, learning details about the experiences of Jewish peoples’ lives before the war and how the events of the Holocaust developed. Students found this an incredibly sobering exhibit, with many noting the footage of the liberation of the Bergen-Belsen camp as a particularly poignant moment.

The History Society continues to grow in popularity and now has 33 members. Any student with an interest in History and the wider Humanities is welcome to join. This term they have been looking at important historical figures and different Historiographical approaches to assessing their impact. The term ended with a symposium – where we had fascinating talks on the British Empire, Pop Music, Rosemary Kennedy, and World War II planes. We have more to come next term as our symposium continues!
