Children in Need/Dance Dash totalIn our last newsletter we shared our plans for this day on 17th November. We are thrilled to announce that we raised a staggering £4516 - thank you to all of you that supported us.

Crochet Club - have been busy with their hooks this term.   Their nimble fingers have been making Christmas gifts and decorations, including festive scrunchies, keyrings, snowflakes, bows, and earrings.  These items will be on sale throughout December with a suggested minimum donation of £2 per item.  All proceeds will be donated to Porchlight to support the homeless at Christmas. Any yarn donations are always welcome!  We are also looking for safety pins and curtain hoops so that we can make Christmas wreath brooches.

Clubs & Activities - we offer a very wide range of clubs and activities both academic, sporting, creative and general interest. These do change on a regular basis and are published on our website here: https://www.hernebayhigh.org/curriculum/clubs-and-activities

Headteacher meetings - We are always keen to hear what you have to say and welcome dialogue around the education we provide.  If you would like to arrange a time to come and speak with the Principal, please e-mail principal@hernebayhigh.org

Vaping Our Safer Schools has extensive guidance on this topic which we are all very concerned about. Please take the time to read this if you suspect your child is vaping and may need help to stop: Youth Vaping – The Need-to-Know on This Rising Trend - Safer Schools (oursaferschools.co.uk)

Attendance - Being in school is important to your child’s achievement, wellbeing, and wider development. Evidence shows that the students with the highest attendance throughout their time in school gain the best GCSE and A Level-results.  Research has found that pupils who performed better both at the end of primary and secondary school missed fewer days than those who didn’t perform as well.

Every moment in school counts, and days missed add up quickly. For example, a child in Year 10 who is absent for three days over a half term could miss 15 lessons in total.  The higher a pupil’s attendance, the more they are likely to learn, and the better they are likely to perform in exams and formal assessments.

Data shows that 84% of Key Stage 2 pupils who had 100% attendance achieved the expected standard, compared to 40% of pupils who were persistently absent across the key stage.

Finally, if there is anything that you wish to discuss with us, then please feel free to contact us on 01227 361221, or email office@hernebayhigh.org as we are here to help and support all students. We aim to respond in a timely manner but please note this is not always immediate.

Thank you!
