As part of our continued support for our Young Carers in school, we were lucky enough to spend last Tuesday morning at Riverside Youth Centre.
Students were joined by Tina Culver from the Young Carers charity Imago Community. Students travelled by train, were able to engage in the fun activities, make pizzas and fruit cocktails as well as see the valuable charity work that Riverside do with the food bank and the 'grow baby' projects.

The scores are in, and it's congratulations to Kingsgate House!
After the lead changing during the week, and a couple of times during the day, we're pleased to announce that Kingsgate are victorious for Sports Day this year.
It's been a great day watching our students participate in all the sporting activities and a huge thank you to all our staff, and particularly the PE Department for supporting the event.

🎉 Year 11 Prom Night 2025 🎉
What an unforgettable evening! On Thursday night, our amazing Year 11 students celebrated the end of an era in true style at the Kent Cricket Ground in Canterbury.
Dressed to impress and full of energy, our students danced the night away, created lifelong memories, and marked the end of their GCSE journey with elegance and pride. From red carpet arrivals to heartfelt goodbyes, it was a night filled with joy, laughter, and celebration.
A huge thank you to everyone who helped make the evening so special – staff, organisers, and of course, our brilliant Year 11s. We’re incredibly proud of you all and can’t wait to see what you achieve next. 💫

At lunchtime on Sports Day, there's been a change at the top of the leaderboard, Mrs Sparks and Minnis House have taken the lead!
But as Year 7 head out of the afternoon, it's still very close, their lead over second place, Kingsgate, is only 3 points, so anything could happen before the end of the day...

Sports Day is in full swing with Year 10 out first today. Our Student Support Managers are really excited to cheer on their houses, and we think that Mrs Treacher's enthusiastic banner is working for Kingsgate as they are currently in the lead...
Year 8 and 9 are heading out now and with the scores still very close, their participation could make all the difference.

It's all changed again in the standings for National School Sports Week. On the eve of Sports Day, there are only 3 points separating the top 3 houses.
Joss have seen their lead shrink to only 1 point, while Kingsgate have managed to rally back into second place, with Botany only 2 points behind them in third. Epple are a close fourth and Minnis are currently in fifth. However, this could all change tomorrow when scores from all the sports day events are added to those already earned this week.
With such a close contest, we know that it's all to play for tomorrow, with every participation point from every student vital to helping their house secure victory. Will Joss be crowned champions, or will one of the other houses overtake them to take the title? We'll find out tomorrow!

Do you need help understanding your child’s needs, whether this is general parenting advice or support with neurodiversity? Do you want to meet other parents/carers of young people with SEND? Kent Family Hub are working with SEND specialists, Early Help and other support organisations to provide information, advice and support for all SEND children regardless of diagnosis.

We would like to congratulate our Year 7-10 students who recently took part in the District Athletics competition, they were an absolute credit to the school the whole day with their behaviour, sportsmanship and performances.
The inter boys (Year 9 and 10) came 3rd out of 8 schools. Overall as a school with the combined junior and inter scores we came 3rd overall!
Another success was from our Year 7 district athletics festival team who competed against 10 other Canterbury district schools and came 2nd overall! They all performed at their best and represented our school well and they should be very proud of themselves.

Today we welcomed Kim and Andy from the Kenward Trust. They spoke to many of our students about the choices that they can make in the community and the effects these can have.
We thank them both for the impact that they make in talking to young people both in schools and in the community.

Yesterday, some of our Year 8 students attended the University of Kent Festival of Languages and Culture.
The students were split into teams with other schools and had to take part in activities in order to earn points for their teams. This involved making new friends, stepping outside of their comfort zone and getting involved in discussions. Each team participated in three different sessions including Japanese Origami, discussing European fairy tales and learning about French gastronomy. Lunch time was the highlight of the day eating packed lunches in the Darwin rose garden and being entertained by a samba band, hitting a pinata, and paella tasting.
The students represented HBH brilliantly showing off their thoughtfulness and eagerness in each session. The students got a taster of university life and a little insight into what an academic lecture is like. Thank you to every student who came along to the day and we hope you enjoyed yourselves and learnt something new.

After day 2 of National School Sports Week, it's clear that Joss House have a commanding lead, but it's all change with Botany climbing to second, Epple to third and Kingsgate slipping back to fourth place. There's still plenty of time for that to all change before Sports Day, so we're encouraging all students to get involved and earn participation points for their house!
Today's activities are Laser Tag at Brunch and Tennis and Tea after school.

We’ve taken the Let's Go Zero pledge, declaring our aim to become zero carbon by 2030. We’re joining schools across the UK in this national campaign to show the overwhelming support for zero carbon schools, and inviting government and local councils to work with us to reach this goal.
We know that schools can be the trailblazers for their community, responding to young people’s calls for action. In fact, they can inspire whole communities to tackle the climate crisis. In the coming pivotal ‘climate decade,’ we will be part of Let’s Go Zero’s national network of schools and sustainability, sharing information about how to reach zero carbon, and working with local councils and government to make it happen.
We’re committing to cut carbon in a number of key areas:
We already have over 360 solar panels on the roofs of our buildings, generating clean, renewable energy we can use to light our classrooms and power the school.
Most of our rooms are also now lit using environmentally friendly LED lighting. These generate less heat and require a fraction of the electricity to operate compared to older light sources.
Every classroom is equipped with a recycling bin enabling waste to be separated at source, with as much as possible avoiding landfill and reducing our reliance on the planet's precious resources.
Our wellbeing garden provides vital green space and pollinating plants to encourage bees and other wildlife to thrive at our school, and provides beautiful colours and scents for our students to enjoy, as well as delicious vegetables which can make their way into our restaurant.
By joining the Let’s Go Zero campaign, we’re taking a positive step on a local level to help combat the climate issues we all face globally. It sends a strong message to our whole school and community that together we can safeguard our planet for future generations.

The Scholastic UK Book Fair is coming to the LRC from 27th June - 11th July!
With a fantastic array of books on offer for students to purchase, they will also be helping to earn free books for our school.
Please do encourage your child to browse what is on offer and buy some books to fuel their passion for reading!

We had a fantastic turnout for the first day of National School Sports Week yesterday, with an amazing 113 students taking part in the penalty shootout and the 5-a-side football tournament.
Every participation during the week's activities earn students points toward their house total for Sports Day on Friday, and with only 1 point separating the top two houses, it's all to play for!
Today's activities feature a Basketball Shootout in the Arena at lunchtime and the much awaited Staff vs Students Rounders match on the field after school!

As part of our fundraiser for Great Ormond Street Hospital and Charity, we're giving students the chance to soak the staff!
A draw will take place to determine who will be lucky enough to pour a bucket of water over one of our staff members, with entries available right now via the School Gateway app for only £1. Students can enter as many times as they wish, each entry will give them another chance in the draw.

Last Sunday, our Year 12 OCR Sport Studies students headlined the volunteering at Whitstable junior parkrun.
The students you like to say a massive thank you to Adam, and all the other regular junior parkrun volunteers who helped out on the day. The event was a big success, with over 70 participants taking part, including 18 first timers.
