Yesterday afternoon (Sunday 26th February), Mrs Stokes, Head of Media Studies was delighted to attend the BFI Academy's Screen South screening where alumni student, Lauren Russell’s short film was premiered.
Lauren's film ‘The Follower’, follows the story of fictional student Jamie Hawke who goes to her local GP regarding her anxiety. During her visit she sees a persistent strange face. Lauren’s beautifully written thriller was highly emotive and she articulately discussed her role as Writer and Assistant Director during the presentation following the screening.
During the Q&A Lauren’s writing was highly commended for its accurate representation of anxiety, which was powerfully communicated through the use of pull focus, breaking the fourth wall, and a chilling soundtrack.
The BFI Academy is a fantastic opportunity for young film makers providing a pathway for future creative careers which we continue to promote with our students. We look forward to Lauren coming into school soon to share her film with our students.
