Cover Supervisor – Make Every Lesson Count

Actual Salary: Up to £22,829.26 per annum
Hours: 35 hours per week
Contract: Permanent
Working Pattern: Term Time Only – 38 Weeks per Year

Are you passionate about supporting young people and helping them succeed?

Do you enjoy working in a busy school environment where no two days are the same?

Herne Bay High School is looking for a confident, enthusiastic and reliable Cover Supervisor to join our team and play an important role in ensuring students continue to learn and make progress when their usual teacher is absent.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys working with young people and wants to make a genuine difference to their day-to-day experience at school. You could be an experienced Cover Supervisor, a Teaching Assistant looking to develop your career, a graduate considering teaching, or simply someone with the right skills and enthusiasm to thrive in a school environment.

Full support and guidance will be provided.

Your Role

As a Cover Supervisor, you will provide continuity of learning by supervising students across a range of subjects and year groups.

You will work closely with teaching and pastoral staff to ensure students remain focused, supported and engaged in their learning.

Every day will be different, and you'll have the opportunity to build positive relationships with students across the school while developing your own skills and experience.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Supervise classes in the absence of their usual teacher.

  • Deliver pre-set work and ensure students remain engaged and focused on their learning.

  • Establish and maintain a calm, positive and purposeful classroom environment.

  • Support students to complete their work and encourage them to achieve their best.

  • Manage behaviour confidently and consistently in line with school expectations.

  • Provide appropriate support to students with additional needs, including SEND.

  • Build positive and professional relationships with students.

  • Communicate effectively with teachers, pastoral staff and other colleagues.

  • Provide feedback to relevant staff about student engagement, behaviour and completion of work.

  • Support the smooth running of the school day and contribute positively to our wider school community.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for someone who is:

  • Confident, calm and approachable when working with young people.

  • Able to manage a classroom and establish clear expectations.

  • Reliable, organised and able to follow instructions and procedures.

  • Flexible and able to adapt quickly when plans change.

  • A strong communicator who works well with both students and colleagues.

  • Patient, resilient and able to remain positive in a busy environment.

  • Committed to supporting all students, including those with additional needs.

  • Passionate about helping young people develop and succeed.

Previous experience of working in a school or with young people is desirable, but we are more interested in finding the right person with the right attitude and approach.

Could This Be Your Next Step?

This role can be a fantastic opportunity for someone looking to develop a career in education.

Whether you are considering becoming a teacher, looking to build on existing experience working with young people, or simply want a rewarding role within a supportive school environment, you will have the opportunity to develop your skills, gain valuable school experience and make a real difference to students every day.

Term Time Only – What Does That Mean?

This is a term-time only role, meaning you will work for the 38 weeks of the school year when students are in school, with school holidays outside of your working weeks.

Your salary is calculated on a pro-rata basis to reflect the weeks worked, together with your entitlement to paid holiday, and is then spread evenly across 12 months to provide a consistent monthly income.

This offers a great balance between meaningful work during term time and extended breaks throughout the year.

Why Join Herne Bay High?

  • Permanent role within a supportive and ambitious school.

  • Term-time working with extended school holidays.

  • A varied role where no two days are the same.

  • Opportunities to gain valuable experience and develop a career in education.

  • A supportive team environment with guidance and ongoing development.

  • The opportunity to work with students across different year groups and subjects.

  • Access to fantastic benefits, including reduced Active Life membership and complimentary Benenden Health Care.

  • Be part of a school community that is committed to both student success and staff development.

Ready to Make a Difference?

If you are enthusiastic about working with young people, enjoy a varied working environment and want to play an important role in supporting students' learning, we would love to hear from you.
