School Trips

At Herne Bay High we believe that learning takes place everywhere and that a student’s school experience can be enriched by a range of extracurricular activities. A broad range of performance, sporting and academic activities are offered before school, at lunchtimes and after school. Each subject works hard to identify learning opportunities beyond the classroom, whether that be external visitors or trips to support the curriculum. Information about these can be found in each subject’s curriculum map. Travel and residential trips are also a key part of broadening students’ horizons. We offer trips to:

Ski Trip

We run an annual residential trip to the Aosta Valley, Italy.

As a school, we feel this is a great opportunity for students to experience an exhilarating sport, breath-taking scenery and the culture of Italy. Whilst on the residential students will be encouraged to develop their language skills as well as gain other valuable skills such as coping away from parents for an extended time, understanding different cultures and the obvious physical and social skills development.

The residential is available to all Year 7 to Year 9 students, although students will be in Years 8 to 10 when they attend. The residential is nine days in length with six full days on the slopes, all transport, food and skiing equipment is included in the price.

New York City

The 6th Form organises an annual cultural trip to New York. This amazing city has more cultural and iconic buildings in one square mile than most other places.  As well as providing students with an insight into other cultures that are rich and diverse, we will also be taking in some of the most spectacular sites this unique city has to offer.

The experience of staying in a busy city and interacting with New Yorkers and being away from home is a valuable life experience and prepares students for their time beyond 6th Form.  It also opens up the wealth of opportunities that may be available to them.

  • The residential trip is 5 days and 4 nights
  • All food except lunch
  • Visits to Times Square
  • Empire State Building (observe NYC by night)
  • Visit Central Park
  • Visit Grand Central Station
  • Visit St Patricks Cathedral
  • Visit Liberty Island
  • Visit the Financial District
  • Visit Ground Zero Memorial/Museum
  • Visit No1 World Trade Centre Observation Tower

The trip is subject to change and the itinerary varies each year.
