Turner Contemporary Art Competition

The Art Department is pleased and proud to announce that 7 of our art students have been shortlisted for this year’s Turner Gallery Margate Portfolio Art Competition. This is the highest number of shortlisted students we have ever had from this annual competition. The successful students were shortlisted down to a selection of 100, from over 1500 art entries across the county. The awards ceremony follows in May 2019, where students will be informed if their art pieces have received prizes in their categories and be on display in the gallery itself.

The theme this year was ‘Art Rebels’ in line with the upcoming 2019 Turner Prize Exhibition that is to be hosted and exhibited this year at the Turner Contemporary Gallery in Margate. This is the most prestigious international annual art competition in the art world. It is amazing that it is being hosted at the Turner Gallery in Margate this year. The prize is renowned for triggering debates around new developments in contemporary British art. All of our student entries have already received positive feedback from the judges and staff at the Turner Contemporary Gallery for their forward thinking and high quality of work.

All prize winners from the shortlisted entries will be on display alongside the Turner Prize Exhibition itself. What an amazing achievement and opportunity. The Turner Prize exhibition will open on 28 September 2019, and run until 12 January 2020.
