Duke of Edinburgh's Award Expeditions

During the weekend of 24th to 26th May, 62 Year 9 & 10 students took part in either their Bronze assessed expedition or their Silver practice expedition.

Prior to this, all students had planned their route and had completed in-depth plans and instructions to ensure that their expedition was successful.

Miss Capon was highly optimistic of both the Bronze and Silver teams but was specifically proud of the Bronze teams who have come a long way since training started in September. She is glad to report that all Bronze teams passed their assessed expeditions with flying colours. She believes this was due to their high motivation and perseverance through the whole process and was glad to see their happy faces throughout the weekend even when the conditions tested them.

The Silver teams did just as well on their practice expedition and have set a high bar for their assessed expeditions in the new academic year. Their navigational skills, as well as their team work, really paid off for them to deal with the hard challenge of a 3-day expedition. Although all were very tired at the end, all the students are looking forward to planning and completing their assessed expedition.

Miss Capon will be starting to recruit new DofE students for next years cohort in an information evening specifically targeting current Year 8 students. If your child wishes to undertake their DofE award in Year 9 then please come to the information evening in the Bay Theatre on the 19th June.

Well done to every student who took part in this expedition weekend, and good luck to the Silver students in their assessed expedition.
