In the Loop
A weekly information sheet updating you about PE and Sport Developments in our schools.
Week Commencing 7th November 2022

Welcome back to Term 2 – we hope you all had a relaxing and enjoyable half term break and we look forward to seeing you at events this term.

This is due to start this term. Before we send further information out, please check to ensure your school has entered. The following large and small schools that have entered so far are:

Large:  Herne Bay Jnrs, Whitstable Jnrs, Briary, Reculver, Davington, Hampton, Swalecliffe and St Mary’s Catholic
Small:  Hernhill, Bysing Wood, Ethelbert Road and Boughton

The final number of entries will determine how the leagues are set up. If your school has not been included, please let us know by close of Friday 11th November. Thank you.

Below are the competitions taking place during Term 2:

Yr5/6 Basketball Competition

Final confirmation of this competition which takes place this Wednesday, 9th November, has been sent out separately and we look forward to seeing those schools.

Yr2/3 Unihoc Cornerball Competition
Date: Wednesday 23rd November
Venue: HBHS
Time: 1.30-3.30pm
Entry deadline: Friday 11th November
Entries so far: Swalecliffe, Bysing Wood (x2 TBC), Hernhill (x2 TBC), Herne Bay Juniors/Infants, Hampton, St Mary’s Cath, Davington, Herne Juniors, Eastling, Ethelbert Road, Herne Infants, Briary, Whitstable Endowed, St Mary of Charity, Whitstable Juniors, Westmeads

This event is taking place at Herne Bay High School on Wednesday 7th December (PM) and is an opportunity for Year 6 students to mix with Year 7 HBHS students to allow them to feel more confident about the transition from primary to secondary school.

We are looking for one primary school to take part in this event which is aimed at pupils who find it difficult to connect with group tasks and work with others. Through this event we are looking to develop teamwork, cooperation and leadership using Sportshall Athletics activities.

Your school can bring up to a maximum of 15 students, ideally targeting the least active CYP.  Please let me know if you would like to take part – first come first served.

We will update you on the venue for this festival, which will take place on Wednesday 14th December, as soon as we can. I have made a few enquiries but really struggling to find a venue so if anybody has any suggestions then please let us know – we would need a stage and parking and the budget is limited!

We hope the schools that participated in this festival before half term enjoyed the event and your pupils are keen to try out their new skills.

Below are some initiatives that the Golf Foundation have asked us to share with you:

Golf Is Ours

  • “Golf is Ours” is all about making the sport more accessible to young people - introducing more primary school children from all backgrounds to golf and creating a generation that owns and loves the sport.  Join our new primary school campaign today, and we will help you to introduce your pupils to golf in a fun, safe and inclusive way.  There is also the opportunity to WIN a visit to your school from Sky Sports Golf presenter Nick Dougherty!

National Primary Schools Programme

  • This Programme is designed to make the introduction of golf to young people fun, inclusive and enriching. The adapted equipment is bright and colourful, big and bold, so that pupils achieve success straight away. Sessions are taught through a series of lively team games suitable for a school hall, playground or field. The activities can be adapted to the ability of the pupils. Life skills are taught through our games and encourage pupils to think how they can use these skills away from the playground.

Also, please visit Sports Partnership Events - Herne Bay High School for updates and photos from events that have taken place as well as weekly In The Loops and other information.

All schools should have handed their Child Protection and Photo Consent form in.  If you haven’t done this, then please bring it to the next event you are attending as you are unable to attend an event if you have not returned this.
